Deep within the captivating rolling hills, lived a boy named Shepherd. His being was mostly untarnished, simple yet virtuous. His website primary duty was essentially to care for his herd of rams.
Their gentle baas and the murmuring of the wind among the solo tree on the peak were his only co-dwellers. Day after day, guarding his wards inculcated in him a sense of calm satisfaction.
Yet, there were at times moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would long for company. On one such day out of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy orchestrated a troublesome scheme.
Narratives of wild beasts hunting on sheep had been heard times and again in the hamlet. So, the boy decided to leveraged this fear and played a trick on the townsfolk.
One morning he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The scared villagers ran up the hills to help but discovered nothing threatening.
The boy laughed at the puzzle on their faces. This trick laughed for a few more days. Yet, one morning, a real wolf actually come to prey the flock. The shepherd boy dashed for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but could protect only few of his sheep. Devastated, he went back to the village only to receive a lesson on honesty and the results of dishonesty.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the value of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the dangers of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is difficult to earn back. It's a story as pertinent today as it was in the past.
